When you have surgery on your heart and lungs, you want anesthesiologists that are specially trained and experienced in providing perioperative or periprocedural management of your health. Our cardiothoracic anesthesiologists work closely with your surgical and cardiovascular care teams to ensure that you have a safe experience during your procedure. All our cardiothoracic anesthesiologists are experts in perioperative imaging with echocardiography which helps to guide the cardiac surgeons and interventional cardiologists in their work.
Our critical care anesthesiologists are nationally and internationally recognized for their expertise in trauma, general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery and neurological surgery. Our patients often require ongoing patient resuscitation, advanced monitoring, treatment of severe comorbidities or advanced therapeutic interventions only available in an intensive care setting.
Anesthetics are medicines that prevent pain during a procedure or surgery. A general anesthetic induces unconsciousness during surgery, a regional anesthetic blocks pain to a region of the body and a local anesthetic numbs a particular body part.
Regional anesthetics (also known as nerve blocks or peripheral nerve blocks) are numbing medications injected around nerves to block the sensation to a specific part of your body. Depending on the specific numbing medicine (local anesthetic) used, the effects of the block can last from hours to days.

Interventional pain therapy can help determine which parts of your body are the origin of your pain. Interventional therapy is typically part of a multimodal program that takes into account the complexity of pain and is tailored to your condition. Depending on the results, we recommend a plan to reduce your pain which may include treatment modalities such as nerve blocks, nerve ablations, implanted stimulator or other techniques.

Many people diagnosed with cancer experience some degree of pain before, during or after treatment. The cause of pain can be different for each person. Our pain management team is highly skilled at assessing pain related to cancer and developing an individualized pain management plan that will help make your diagnosis, treatment and follow-up pain care manageable at all stages of your cancer treatment.
Surgery performed on the brain and spinal cord is delicate. It requires close collaboration among specialists to ensure that patients are stable and maintaining the appropriate level of consciousness and neurological function. Our neuroanesthesiologists use specialized techniques to administer anesthesia and play a critical role in controlling and monitoring the status of our neurosurgery patients, as well as in pain management to achieve brain health during and after surgery.
Every woman has the right to labor pain relief. Epidurals reduce pain in the lower half of the body without interfering with the birth process. An epidural is extremely safe for mother and baby, and is the most commonly used form of labor relief. Our nationally recognized obstetric-anesthesia team is present around the clock and expert at placing and managing epidurals for labor and providing anesthesia for caesarean deliveries.
We have been a national leader in treating pain in babies, children, and teens for many years, using a variety of evidence-based methods that include medications and specialized procedures. Our anesthesiologists are experts at safely and effectively administering anesthetics to your child during surgery.
Perioperative means before, during and after surgery. Our skilled anesthesiologists work closely with you before your surgery to understand your medical needs and develop an appropriate pain management plan, effectively administer anesthetics and other medications during surgery and help control your pain after surgery. After surgery, we’ll develop a specialized plan for transitioning from pain relief in the hospital to pain relief at home.
Before your surgery, a provider will meet with you in person or over the phone to talk with you about your medical history in order to develop a detailed care plan based on your individual needs. Our pain management specialists also work closely with our anesthesiologists to coordinate your pain control needs after surgery.
Transplant surgeries are highly complex. Our skilled transplant anesthesiologists have an extensive background in critical care medicine and anesthesiology for medically compromised patients. They safely provide advanced, specialized anesthesia which includes management of vital life functions throughout the transplant procedure in severely medically compromised patients.
